As the years have passed, I’ve talked with people from all walks of life, and there’s one thing everyone seems to have in common: we all love a good deal. I’m no exception—I adore a great sale just as much as anyone! In fact, I still laugh about the time I waited outside a store at 5 a.m. with my aunt at Kohls just to snag a discounted hair straightener and appliances to make feeding time easier with the cats. I swore would change my life. (It didn’t—but the thrill of the deal absolutely did.)
But when it comes to pedigree cats especially Maine Coons many families are shocked to discover how expensive they are. Ethical, responsible breeding takes time, planning, and a genuine commitment to raising healthy animals. It’s never as simple as putting two cats together. From premium nutrition and genetic testing to litter, wet food, enrichment, and hours of socialization, the costs add up quickly.
Our kittens stay with us until 13 weeks and sometimes longer depending on their needs, and during that time we invest deeply in bonding, nurturing, and early development. That’s why it’s so important to be realistic when searching for a pedigree cat—and why you should be cautious of “too good to be true” prices.
Before sending any money, always request at least a FaceTime or live video call. Scammers frequently target families searching for Maine Coons, and many people have told me they’ve lost thousands—sometimes upwards of $5,000. If a “breeder” pushes you to pay first, without verifying anything, that’s a major red flag.
Maine Coons are in high demand and easily recognizable, making them a prime target for scammers who steal photos and pretend the cats are theirs.
Stay safe, stay informed, and trust your instincts when searching for your new feline family member!
